Worship Associates 2025

Thank you for your interest in the Worship Associates program! Because worship is such an important part of the life of our congregation, the Worship Associates program has been established to help ensure: excellent worship experiences, a deep and diverse engagement with our monthly themes (“big ideas”), and a consistent stream of new voices and ideas.

Please read and consider the following prompts in discerning your interest.
As part of the shared ministry of the congregation, Worship Associates enjoy the opportunity to work more closely with worship leaders (professional and volunteer) for the purpose of better serving the spiritual needs of congregants in the worship experience.  Worship Associates are asked to serve a one (1) year term and have the option of reapplying and serving consecutive terms if they so desire.

The benefits of being a Worship Associate are many. In addition to opportunities to plan and help lead worship services, training is provided in the worship arts including pubic speaking. Because of the creative and theological nature of this ministry, the fellowship and dialog among Worship Associates is rich and dynamic.

The ultimate responsiblity for worship at UUSGS lies with the Minister(s), working with teams of staff and volunteers in furtherance of our shared Mission, Vision, and Values.  Not all applicants will be a good fit for all roles within the program; however, every effort will be made to find a fit for everyone.
A Worship Associate...

* Works creatively and collaboratively within existing structures (e.g., monthly themes, Mind/Body/Spirit/Plus Sundays, liturgy).

* Participates in monthly 'big idea' dialogs (often third Sundays).  Helps to facilitate when needed.

* Assists in leading at least one service each year, including: working individually with the Minister and/or worship team weeks in advance, and acting as a liturgist (from the root word meaning “the work of the people”)... which may include creating sacred space, co-leading ritual, public speaking, and/or crafting or leading additional service elements.

* Assists in assessment of past services.  What worked, and for whom?  What didn’t?  We want our worship to have an impact!

* Coordinates lay-led services, in accordance with worship schedule.
